Dealership Service vs Local Mechanic – Is the Extra Cost Worth It?
-
Hi everyone,
I’ve been debating something recently after getting my car serviced. The dealership quoted me almost double what a local mechanic asked for the same job. That made me wonder if dealership service is actually better, or if we’re mostly paying for the brand name.
Dealerships obviously have manufacturer-trained technicians and official parts. That sounds great on paper. But I’ve also met some local mechanics who know certain cars inside out and charge far less.
A friend who deals with japan 2nd hand cars told me many independent mechanics are very familiar with these imports and sometimes fix issues faster than dealerships.
So now I’m curious how others here handle this. Do you stick with dealerships for peace of mind, or do you trust a good local mechanic instead?
Would love to hear real experiences.
